Wendy Smith
Wendy Smith is a technology change-maker in the health and public sector industry with a history of working in IT & telco sales environments.
Wendy is also a dedicated concussion and wellbeing advocate, committed to fostering awareness and promoting proactive measures for brain health and safety in sports. She is passionate about educating communities on the impact of concussions and empowering individuals to prioritize their mental health and wellbeing.
Her advocacy started in 2016 when her son Jack suffered a severe concussion which led to his participation in a rehabilitation program through the Child and Adolescent Brain Injury Unit at the Women’s & Children’s Hospital in South Australia. Wendy recently lost her eldest son Antonio Lo Iacono in 2023 from a catastrophic head injury while playing country football. As a result of her passion, grief, resilience and determination to make a difference, Wendy has brought to life Antonio’s legacy – Happy Lid Hats. Happy Lids is a symbol of safety in sports and brain health. It is important to protect your lid and look after your wellbeing. Each hat sold contributes to raising funds for the Concussion Legacy Foundation, while enabling Wendy and her family to continue to honour Antonio’s memory.
Together we can make a difference, safeguarding the future of our athletes and raising awareness around the severity of concussions and head trauma. Together, let’s build a safer, more resilient future. #ConcussionAwareness #wellbeingAdvocate
