Nicholas Ashton, PhD
Nicholas Ashton, PhD, is Senior Director of the Fluid Biomarker Program at Banner Research, where he leads efforts to advance cerebrospinal fluid and blood-based biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. He oversees two laboratories at Banner Sun Health Research Institute, working with colleagues across Banner Alzheimer’s Institute and international collaborators to develop, validate, and optimize fluid assays. His team’s work is laying the foundation for the widespread use of blood tests in research, clinical trials, and patient care.
Dr. Ashton received his PhD from King’s College London in 2017 and has served as an Associate Professor at the University of Gothenburg since 2019. With more than a decade of experience in biofluid analysis and assay development, he has published over 500 papers. His contributions have been recognized with the Queen of Sweden Prize to a Young Alzheimer Researcher (2021) and Clarivate’s Highly Cited Researcher designation (2023, 2024) and European Researcher of the Year (2024).
