Daniel Daneshvar, MD, PhD

Associate Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Harvard Medical School; Chief of Brain Injury Rehabilitation, Spaulding Rehabilitation Network

Dan Daneshvar, MD, PhD, serves as Chief of Brain Injury Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School, Co-Director of Sports Concussion at Mass General Brigham, and Director of the HealthSpan Lab, which investigates the biological, behavioral, and environmental factors that influence lifelong health and brain function. His lab studies early markers of decline, mechanisms of risk and resilience, and interventions to prevent disease. He has authored and co-authored over 100 scientific papers in journals including JAMA, Nature Communications, and Brain, and received the 2024 National Neurotrauma Society Rising Star Award.  

He founded Team Up Against Concussions, the first scientifically validated concussion education program for children, and directs the Institute for Brain Research and Innovation at TeachAids, which developed CrashCourse, a virtual reality and computer-based concussion education program. He received awards for both programs, including Harvard Medical School’s 2021 Dean’s Community Service Award.  

Dr. Daneshvar earned his S.B. from MIT and M.D./Ph.D. from Boston University, where his research resulted in the first dissertation in history to study CTE. He completed residency at Stanford University and joined the faculty at Harvard Medical School.
