Dr Keith D. Parry is programme lead for the CLF Media Project in the UK, which aims to enhance media reporting on concussion and brain injuries in sport. Keith’s work as an academic developed his interest in both creating safe and inclusive (sporting) environments and the role that the media plays in shaping societal attitudes. His research has investigated media reporting on concussion and public attitudes towards media framing of concussion and brain injuries in sport. His role in the Media Project allows him to combine his research alongside educating media professionals and students while improving and evaluating the CLF’s work in this area. Keith is also part of a team of researchers who are capturing the experiences of family members and caregivers of those who have suffered from concussion, Post-Concussion Syndrome (PCS) and CTE and was involved in the establishment of the Acquired Brain Injury Research Network, which is a collective of scholars committed to advancing knowledge on acquired brain injuries.
 
Keith is also Deputy Head of Department in the Department of Sport and Event Management at Bournemouth University and an Adjunct Fellow of Western Sydney University. His wider research interests are based on the sociology of sport, with a focus on inclusion in sport, health and the spectator experience. His knowledge and expertise have also been recognised with invitations to write for websites such as The Conversation and News.com.au, allowing him to disseminate his knowledge to a wide audience. He is an award-winning teacher and writer, receiving a UN Day Media Award for a co-authored media piece: Pushing casual sport to the margins threatens cities’ social cohesion.
 
Keith is passionate about learning and teaching and has developed a number of blended learning strategies, often making use of innovative technology, to enhance his teaching. Keith’s creative, enthusiastic, innovative and dynamic teaching approach has been recognised for positively motivating and engaging students through a variety of teaching awards. He is a Senior Fellow of the HEA.
